Đà Nẵng absorbed Quảng Nam: what changed in 2025
Since 1 July 2025, Đà Nẵng covers the whole of the former Quảng Nam province. Hội An, Tam Kỳ and Mỹ Sơn are now inside the same city.

Đà Nẵng was a city of 1,285 km². It is now close to six times that. Booking sites have not all followed.
01What changed
Resolution 202/2025/QH15 takes Vietnam from 63 provinces and cities to 34. The reform took effect on 1 July 2025.
Quảng Nam province was dissolved. Its entire territory was absorbed into the city of Đà Nẵng, which remains one of the six cities governed directly by the central government.
On 16 June 2025, Resolution 1659/NQ-UBTVQH15 reorganised the commune-level units of the new city.
02What Đà Nẵng now contains
After reorganisation, Đà Nẵng has 94 commune-level units: 23 wards, 70 communes and one special zone.
Places that sat in a different province are now inside the same city:
- Hội An, now three wards of Đà Nẵng
- Tam Kỳ, former capital of Quảng Nam
- The Mỹ Sơn sanctuary
03What it changes in practice
An itinerary reading “Đà Nẵng then Quảng Nam” now describes a journey inside a single city. Administrative forms and stay declarations use the new naming.
Booking platforms and mapping applications largely still show the old organisation.
04How to check it yourself
Resolution 1659/NQ-UBTVQH15 can be read in English on thuvienphapluat.vn. It lists the 94 units of the new city.
The city portal, danang.gov.vn, publishes the list of wards, communes and the special zone. It returned 403 from outside Vietnam on the verification date.
05What happens to an older itinerary
A tour advertising “three days in Đà Nẵng, two in Quảng Nam” now describes five days inside one city. The route is the same; the description is not.
An insurance policy or permit issued for Quảng Nam province covers territory that still exists. It is the name of the entity that vanished, not the place.
06The principle behind the reform
The district tier was abolished nationwide. Only two local levels remain: the province or city, then the commune or the ward.
Đà Nẵng remains one of six cities governed directly by the central government, alongside Hanoi, Hải Phòng, Ho Chi Minh City, Cần Thơ and Huế.
